J.A.Jim Landry - J.A. began playing the drums as a youngster and soon realized his passion and salvation was music and drumming. He took formal lessons for a number of years along with music theory. He played and practiced everyday, but he truly cut his teeth and found his voice by jamming with every musician he could find. He formed his first band – The Living End – in the mid-sixties and continued to play subsequently in numerous bands as he worked on defining his career. J.A. built a rehearsal hall in his basement and invited daily any and all musicians to take part in the sessions. At one point in time he was actually playing in three groups at once, as well as taking free lance and pick-up gigs. He was brought-up on, and lucky enough to be surrounded with musicianship that supported blues, country, folk, jazz, rock and fusion. Rock is his true love, because it has the potential to, and the genre is open enough to, work in any style within – undercurrent or propped-up: Rock is open territory. J.A. has played in many bar bands but reached a milestone with a professional group he joined that focused on playing original music. That band, FoolStar produced two albums that in turn put three singles in the top ten for the group, with one number one on the Regional Billboard Charts. Besides contributing drums and percussion, J.A. co-wrote, arranged and co-produced the records. He has traveled over a quarter million miles, playing the Maritime Provinces, throughout New England and through two-hundred forty cities in fourteen states across the southeast. J.A. plays as a session man, co-writer, arranger and co-producer, but still takes the stage from time to time. He also has a talent for writing and is a published author and award winning poet. He writes fictional novels and short stories, non-fiction articles, essays and poetry. His latest novel, “Fool Star” is based on his ten year jaunt on the road with a rock show he headed-up several years ago. J.A. plays custom DW Drums and Roland TD-12S V-Drums, the first non-acoustic kit he has ever owned. He uses Roland monitors and Bose-L1 with an additional Bass Module for on stage instrumental performance. |
